With home prices at bargain levels and interest rates at historic lows, increasing numbers of homeowners are finally deciding that it is time for them to move. For many, it is about time. Between the years 2001 and 2008, typical sellers had lived in their homes for six years before deciding to sell. By 2009, the typical seller’s tenure at home had increased to seven years. In 2011, the typical seller sold his or her home after owning it for nine years. Thus, by recent historical standards, sellers have been holding on to their houses for longer periods before circumstances compel them to finally sell. The top reason for selling a house these days is job relocation.
HINT: One of the top reasons sellers cite for moving has always been (and continues to be) having outgrown homes that have become too small for their families.
