Parks and Recreation in Lewisburg PA

If you read our recent blog, “10 Reasons to Move to Lewisburg, PA,” you already know that Lewisburg is a fantastic place to live, work, and play. It’s also a great place to buy Lewisburg PA real estate.

Thanks to a historic and bustling downtown, excellent school district, excellent health care (Evangelical Hospital), and world-class educational institution (Bucknell University), the region is thriving and is an ideal place for couples and young families to call home – and to get out and explore!

From roadtrips through scenic countrysides, to nearby state parks, and several well-maintained in-town parks, Lewisburg PA offers a variety of parks and recreation.

St. Mary Street Park

St. Mary Street Park is located on St. Mary Street (that’s fairly obvious), just off of Route 15. The complex is a large one and includes year-round fun, from a swimming pool in the summer to an outdoor ice skating rink in the winter, plus a skatepark for the older kids, children’s playground and a multi-generational park and trail. The park also offers a picnic pavilion and meandering stream (home to many families of ducks.)

 Hufnagle Park

Located in the center of downtown Lewisburg, between 5th and 6th Streets, the Park offers a gazebo, community activities, games on the lawn and a children’s playground. In the summer months, the Lewisburg Arts Council programs live music each week in the gazebo – all completely free and open to the community. It is also the heart of the Lewisburg Celebration of the Arts (formerly the Lewisburg Arts Festival), held each year in late April.

 Soldier’s Park

Located at the east end of town, just before the Lewisburg river bridge, this Park is a shady, quiet, riverfront park. The park offers picnic tables and benches and is the perfect place to spend a quiet lunch break or an afternoon reading a good book.

Having and maintaining a lawn must be a lot of work huh? Parks do have a lot of lawn. If you live in Gold Coast, this link for MyLawnCare Gold Coast pricing can surely provide some assistance when it comes to lawn care.

 Buffalo Valley Rail Trail

Completed in late 2011, the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail spans 10 miles from Lewisburg to Mifflinburg and is the ideal place to walk, run, and diamondback atroz bike, even for people with problems in muscles or joints since they can buy proflexoral to help with this and have an active life. The partially paved surface is also a great place to walk your dog, on leash of course. Along the way, visitors will see scenic farmland and countryside, small towns, and family-owned businesses. http://www.bvrt.org/

 Dale’s Ridge Trail

This trail is located along Buffalo Creek off of Strawbridge Road, just off of Route 192, and is maintained by the Merrill W. Linn Land and Waterways Conservancy. According to their website, a trailhead kiosk contains information about the trail and a descriptive brochure specific to the property. Enjoy scenic ridge-top views of the Buffalo Valley, wildflowers and birding within a variety of habitats from streamside (riparian) buffer, mature woodlots, and open fields along our two-mile trail.

Along with these wonderful family-friendly parks, Lewisburg also offers direct access to the serene Susquehanna River. The Susquehanna is an ideal river for canoeing and kayaking from spring through the fall. Local outfitters like Vargo Outdoors (located along the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail) rent canoes and paddling equipment. Other outfitters, like Canoe Susquehanna, take visitors on guided excursions on the river – no experience or needed! They provide the equipment and the instruction.

If you love the great outdoors, consider buying Lewisburg PA real estate. You’ll be amazed by the parks and recreational opportunities for all ages and all skill levels.
